Applying for your first passport

To simplify the process of obtaining a passport, you can make a pre-application online.
You must be of French nationality and go to the municipal government office in person to complete your application.

Documents to provide
Prepare the supporting documents for your appointment at the municipal office:
- the pre-application number and/or QR code obtained at the end of the process (to save time, we advise you to print out the pre-application summary)
- a passport-size photo that is less than 6 months old and is an accurate likeness
- proof of address less than one year old
- a national identity card that is valid or expired within the last 5 years
- a birth certificate less than 3 months old, unless the identity card is valid or the place of birth is in a town with a paperless vital records system
- proof of French nationality (link) if you do not have a valid identity document or birth certificate
- a tax stamp valued at:
- €86 for an adult
- €17 for a minor aged between 0 and 14
- €42 for a minor aged between 15 and 17
If you are a minor, you will need to provide:
- parents' proof of address less than one year old (original + photocopy)
- proof of identity of the parent who is applying (original + photocopy)

- 3Enter the reason for the pre-application
The reason is essential for determining the content of the information required for the pre-application. It will not be modifiable thereafter.
- 4Enter your vitals
All fields preceded by an "*" are mandatory: Gender, last name at birth, first name, height, eye colour, date and country, département and commune of birth.
- 5Enter your nationality
All fields preceded by an "*" are mandatory.
- 6Enter the address and contact details
The telephone number you enter when you make a pre-application will only be used to send a text message to let you know when the document is available.
- 7Pay for the document
Be sure to check the information you have entered in the previous steps, as it will affect the amount of the payment.
- 8Confirm the pre-application
Carefully reread the information in your summary. This is because once validated, the pre-application cannot be modified and any error may result in failure to issue your document.
- 9Save the pre-application number and/or the QR code
You will need them when you visit the municipal office.
You must keep your pre-application number and present it when you validate your pre-application at the municipal office.
Please note that the online pre-application is valid for 12 months. You must complete your application with an appointment at the municipal office within 12 months.
- 10Book an appointment at the municipal office.
To validate your pre-application and be fingerprinted, you must go to the municipal office.

Log on to your ANTS space and enter the application number given by the municipal office in the document tracking module.

You can apply for a passport and/or national identity card (CNI) at any municipal government office (place of residence, work, etc.) if it is equipped with a fingerprint scanner (DR).
You will pick up your passport or CNI at that same office.
Pre-application for a passport or national identity card (CNI) is not compulsory.
Pre-application allows you to fill out all the necessary information about your identity and that of your parents, etc. from a computer.
However, it is still possible to fill out a form available only from the municipal government office.
How does the pre-application process work?
- Once you have submitted your pre-application, you will be issued with a number that you will need to give to the municipal government office.
- You will need to go there (find out if you need to make an appointment beforehand).
- Using your pre-application number, the municipal employee will bring up your file, which you will validate together.
- The municipal employee will also take your fingerprints.
- Your application will be validated at the municipal office.
