Biometric passport

In order to better ensure travel documents match their holders and to improve the fight against fraud, the European Union has decided to introduce a more secure passport: the biometric passport (Regulation (EC) no. 2252/2004 of the Council).

In addition to the data contained on the chip, the digitised image of two fingerprints is also stored on it.

This passport requires the use of special devices that can:

  • Digitise the application file
  • Scan fingerprints
  • Possibly take a photo (for consulates and embassies)

The inside pages of the booklet, printed in a grey-beige gradient, depict world maps and the different regions of France.
